Summer is coming to an end and with that means the start of your new college adventure! While many students love their college experience, it’s normal to feel some growing pains at the beginning of your transition from high school to college. We want you to have the best start possible, so here are a few suggestions to help you make the most of the opportunities you have to learn both in and outside the classroom.

Going to college gives you an incredible opportunity to learn from professors who are highly trained in your discipline. Soak up all you can from them. And get to know them! At Briercrest, we have amazing professors that genuinely care about their students and want to help them grow. Don’t miss out on that.

Learning to write papers at a college level or planning for your assignments can sometimes feel daunting. Be bold and ask for help. Many schools have a Student Success Centre where you can get help organizing your schedule or feedback on your assignments.

As important as it is to focus on your classroom learning, don’t underestimate the impact that extra-curricular involvement can have on your learning as well. Getting involved in activities outside of the classroom can be beneficial for a number of reasons. They can help you get to know people, develop valuable leadership skills, allow you to develop practical skills in your field, or gain experience doing something completely new. Plus, often times they look great on a résume!

Briercrest offers a wide variety of extra-curricular options for you to get involved in. Athletics, the arts, Youth Quake, or Student Government are just a few of the ways you can get involved.
