Description:

Specifically concerned with the management of injuries, sports therapy is a vital aspect of the sports healthcare process. Using clinical skills you’ll examine, assess, treat, prevent, and rehabilitate sports injuries, working with athletes to return them to the fitness standard required for their specific sport. You’ll learn in our practical assessment rooms, training in the use of sports therapy techniques such as sports massage, electrotherapy, joint mobilisation and kinesio taping. You’ll learn under the guidance of practising lecturers who provide medical care for professional and elite teams such as Swindon Town FC, Team GB women’s ice hockey team and Sport England’s Talented Athlete Scholarship Scheme (TASS).

Throughout your course you’ll undertake a number of placements, with opportunities to work with national, international, amateur and professional sports clubs such as Gloucester Rugby and the Team GB women’s ice hockey team. In your first semester you can take part in providing pitch-side first aid for local and university teams, with additional opportunities to work with professional rugby players in our university run massage clinic in semester two.
