Description:

Language is how we make sense of the world. It makes us who we are, and is fundamental to society and the communities we all live in. On this course we’ll look at language and how it shapes us, giving you the chance to get a deeper understanding of what language is and how it works.

Humour, power, relationships, none of these would be possible without language. We’ll look at linguistics in depth and give you the chance to learn descriptive terms so you can analyse language and assess how it works. You’ll be introduced to the basic concepts and the theory of different branches of linguistics, like phonetics and morphology. We’ll also encourage you to study the role of language in society and how it helps humans understand things. How we acquire it, the way it changes, and the way it forms an array of ways to communicate.
