Requirements for Canadian Students

Admission requirements vary by program and are designed to allow access and to verify that applicants have the necessary educational background for a reasonable chance of success. Admission for high school, mature students, transfer students and graduate students as well as by special admission can be found at here. VIU also offers high school equivalency courses if you need to upgrade or are missing particular admission requirements. Specific admission requirements for each program are listed in the program outlines.

Requirements for International Students

International applicants must have completed high school (or equivalent), have a minimum TOEFL iBT score of 80 with no score below 19, or 550 (Pbt), (213 CBT) or a minimum IELTS of 6.0 (with no band below 5.5) or have successfully completed Vancouver Island University's English Language certificate program and course prerequisites. Applicants who do not meet the above may still be considered for admission and will be required to upgrade.

If applying for an M.B.A./M.Sc.I.B. business or non-business undergraduate degree, students must have a B average in their last two years of an undergraduate degree, a minimum TOEFL iBT 88 with no sections under 20, or IELTS 6.5 with no band under 6.0, CAEL 70, or have successfully completed Vancouver Island University’s English Language certificate program. GMAT andwork experience are not required.

Procedure for Canadian Students

Application deadlines vary by program. For detailed information, please visit our website. To apply: 1. Start online at viu.ca/apply. 2. You must support your application with an official transcript from your high school and from any college or university you have attended. Current high school students from British Columbia and the Yukon should provide their Personal Education Number (PEN), and may be required to submit an interim transcript for admission purposes.
There may be other documents or procedures required. Some programs require an assessment test and most have application deadlines.

A non-refundable application fee is required. Applicants to undergraduate programs are asked to pay a $37.80 fee; applicants to Master's degree programs pay a $100 fee (excluding the Faculty of Management) or $150 fee for Faculty of Management programs.

Procedure for International Students

International applicants must complete an international application for admission, which is available online. Students must include in their applications a $150 non-refundable application processing fee, and enclose a certified copy of all educational documents in their original language and translated into English. If available, applicants should include original copies of TOEFL or IELTS results, these results are not required. Learn more.
