Electronic service technicians install, maintain, and repair household / business electronic equipment, inspect and test electronic equipment, components, and assemblies, diagnose and locate circuit, component, and equipment faults, adjust, align, replace or repair equipment, assemblies or components by following equipment manuals / schematics, and use soldering tools and other hand / power tools.

To be an electronic service technician, you usually need a two- to three-year college program in electronics, or a four-year apprenticeship program in electronic servicing and repair, or a high school diploma plus college courses in electronics and on-the-job training. Most recent entrants have a trade / vocational certificate or community college diploma, and almost 1 in 10 has an undergraduate university degree.
