Looking for a Graduate Program in Canada, but can't find the right one? Not qualified for a Masters program? Interested in something relevant that will bring you where you really want to go?

Consider the options that Colleges in Canada have to offer at the graduate level, and you will be surprised at how appropriate this education will prove to be for securing high-paying jobs in Canada and elsewhere in the world… And remember that diversification and specialization are important factors that you should consider when making a decision about your post-graduate future.

Building on knowledge and experience gained through previous post-secondary studies, Graduate Ontario Certificates require a university degree or a college diploma for admissions.

At Algonquin College, one the largest community colleges in Canada located in the capital city, Ottawa, the Graduate Certificates are specifically designed for college and university graduates who want to expand their learning with practical skills, as well as professionals who have been working for a number of years and who want to upgrade existing skills, specialize in a particular area or change careers altogether.

They are designed to make the connection between a theory-based university degree and today's global economy by developing hands-on skills that are in demand by business and industry.

In just one year, Algonquin's Graduate Students receive an intensive training in the chosen field, as well as the opportunity to put into practice their newly acquired knowledge through a field placement or the completion of an independent project.

Graduate Studies in Green Business Management

Graduate student Dorothy Dascal, a recent graduate from Algonquin College's Business Marketing program has opted to continue her studies in the new Graduate Certificate program "Green Business Management". This groundbreaking program is the first of its kind in Canada and is all about protecting the environment, while ensuring that businesses grow and make a profit. "When it comes to protecting the environment, it is all about the 3 "P's": "People, the Planet, and Profit"." Founder and coordinator of the Graduate Program, Adrienne Armstrong is confident that this graduate study option will give "individuals the abilities to become "agents of change" with the credentials behind them."

Like most Graduate Certificates at Algonquin, the program includes a course in which students create a professional business plan that meets the highest industry standards and is ready for submission to a lending institution. Students have to present their plan to industry specialists as a final viability test.

Through various case studies, field work and independent research projects, graduate students acquire the language, framework, and tools necessary to be successful in the real world.

In a recent TV interview about this innovative program, Dorothy stated that "all the businesses right now are slowly but surely turning themselves towards more sustainable practices, and I know that this Graduate Program, combined with my background in Marketing, will be a great combination and put me in a leading position on the job market".

And she is not the only one to think so: the Graduate Certificate in Green Business Management program at Algonquin, which will start in September 2009 is already half full...
