From Venezuela to Canada with a little help from St. Lawrence College
The journey from Caracas, Venezuela to Kingston, Ontario, Canada was one of the best experiences that Barbara Castillo ever had. She made that journey with her sister and a little help from St. Lawrence College. Starting from a personal meeting with the International Education recruitment staff to guidance from professors and program coordinators, the college helped Barbara settle in to a new city, learn and grow through a challenging Business Marketing program and successfully graduate. Now living and working full time in Toronto, she hopes to apply for the Canadian Experience Immigration program that will help her obtain residence in Canada after a year of full-time employment.
Barbara isn’t alone… St. Lawrence College is a destination for people from every continent in the world and offers many services specifically designed to help international students succeed. You can be part of a Canadian family in a homestay arrangement, or we can help with other housing, including residence options. We’ll help with your orientation to Canada, with banking, visa and immigration, health insurance and more.
Barbara said she wouldn’t change a thing. “For International students challenges can be many, and arriving to a small city makes the process a bit easier. If the intentions are to emerge into a new culture, the student should start in a small but beautiful college like St. Lawrence” she says. “I am Venezuelan and that will always be my home, but in Canada, Kingston will always feel like home as well. It was where everything started.”
