York University provides a distinct multicultural community for its students. With more than 290 countries represented, our campuses are incredibly diverse, welcoming spaces for international students. We take pride in our diversity and welcome international students with events, supports and services from their first day on campus.

Along with the academic and social orientations events available to all students, York International, our on-campus office for international students, organizes a special international orientation for students who are new to Canada. Students learn about living in Canada and in Toronto, studying at York and getting involved in campus life. Students also make friends and discover their campus.

After orientation, students are encouraged to stay involved with York International through the Buddy Program. This program pairs new international students with upper- year students who will meet with them regularly and introduce them to York on a one-on-one level. York International also organizes social events throughout the school year.

For those looking to work on their English skills, York offers both the York University English Language Institute (YUELI) and English as a Second Language (ESL) courses. YUELI offers a variety of programs from intensive summer courses to those aimed at helping prospective undergraduate, graduate and MBA students improve their English. Our ESL courses allow students to earn degree credits while also improving their English skills.

From academic support to English classes and social events, York works hard to make sure international students find the support they need to be successful in Canada.
