All new students are contacted on a regular basis by personal email from the moment they receive their offer to the time they arrive in Canada. We first send them our pre-arrival guide which contains important information that will help make a student’s arrival and their time at Laurentian go smoothly. This handbook contains information on the following:

  • Important dates at Laurentian University
  • Contact information for Laurentian International staff
  • Traveling to Canada
  • The City of Greater Sudbury
  • Arriving at Laurentian University
  • University Health Insurance Plan (UHIP)
  • Orientation session
  • Financial matters/banking information
  • Student housing, accommodation and child care
  • Culture shock and adaptation
  • Pre-departure checklist

Over the course of this transition, Laurentian International maintains regular contact with new students to remind them of various documents they need to send before their arrival, and to help with any university and immigration matters. We offer free pick-up service at the Sudbury airport or bus station. A full week of Orientation activities (Fall 2012 will be posted soon) are planned the week before classes begin, especially for international students. During that time, they get personalized assistance to open bank accounts, activate cell phones, buy groceries and other supplies. There are also many fun activities when new students can get to know the campus and the City of Greater Sudbury, as well as meet other international students through our Peer Mentoring Program and Canadian students through Cultural Connections. All this information and more are available on our webpage www.laurentian.ca and Facebook page www.facebook.com/LaurentianInternational
