Finding the Right School - Tips from the Canadian Mennonite University
As you start the process of looking for a post secondary institution to apply to, there are a number of factors to consider besides the obvious ones.
Obvious factors when looking for a school are: programs offered and cost.
- Does the school offer enough courses or a degree in what I’m interested in?
- Can I afford their tuition costs (which should include researching what they offer in the way of financial aid/employment, etc)?
Not-so-obvious factors to consider go beyond the above.
- Take a look at how big the class sizes are which will directly correlate to how much attention you will receive from faculty one-on-one.
- Consider how large the on-campus housing program is and whether it fosters a community feel where you will get to know others quickly and feel at home.
- Check out how many opportunities there are for exercising and exploring your leadership skills.
- Does the school promote integrating your courses with out-of-classroom experiences to make learning applicable in the real world?
The admissions staff at Canadian Mennonite University fosters personal relationships with each applicant and is able to highlight exactly these kinds of advantages of studying at CMU.
A smaller setting and in this case a University emphasizing one’s faith, can often offer advantages and opportunities beyond program and competitive costs and/or financial aid.
