Bow Valley CollegeAt Bow Valley College we encourage students to get involved in student life experiences. We believe that getting involved with student clubs, college activities, social events and/or volunteering opportunities will help provide you with skills you won’t necessarily find in the classroom but will be extremely valuable in helping you succeed after graduation. At Bow Valley College we pride ourselves on offering numerous opportunities for students to get involved all while fitting it around your class schedules.

Simply put getting involved in student life couldn’t be easier at BVC. Our Leadership Experience and Development series provides BVC students with opportunities to participate in various workshops and volunteer initiatives within the college community. Students can join the Country Ambassador Program, a group of international students and alumni who are willing to share their experiences and advice with prospective students thinking about or planning to attend Bow Valley College. When you register in a program at the college you automatically become a member of the Bow Valley College Students Association who advocates for and represents students, and provides a range of important and fun services such as student clubs, workshops, events, student government, and volunteer opportunities. These are just a few of the opportunities available to get involved in student life at BVC!

We also believe that a true student life experience wouldn’t be complete without exploring your new surroundings! Just outside of the college doors with its diverse and cultural scene Calgary has plenty of attractions to explore. No matter the time of year there is always something to do from exploring the food delights of Chinatown, taking a trip up the Calgary Tower, visiting the Glenbow Museum to learn more about Alberta’s western heritage, to enjoying a barbeque in the park. Within walking distance of the college you will find Olympic Plaza, a downtown park that regularly hosts concerts, plays and festivals throughout the summer months and Stephan Avenue with its hustling and bustling avenue of shops, bars, restaurants, museums and galleries. In the cooler months students can try open air ice-skating in Olympic Plaza or snowboarding at Canada Olympic Park, home of the 1988 Winter Olympics.

Providing an opportunity to venture further afield the International Education Department regularly provides fun and exciting daytrips for all international students to participate in. Most recently we took a bus full of students to Drumheller; a small town to the east of Calgary famous for it’sthe world class Royal Tyrrell dinosaur museum. Taking in the museum along with other points of interest including an old mine suspension Bridge, Horseshoe Canyon with trails and hiking, and strange rock formations called The Hoodoos, the daytrip was a great way for students to meet new people and have fun! Check out our photographs from the Drumheller daytrip on our Facebook page. In addition to Drumheller we have in previous semesters also visited the picture perfect towns of Banff and Lake Louise in the Rocky Mountains as well as Canada’s largest mall in Edmonton with its own theme park, water park and ice skating (on top of the great shopping!).
