Study And Succeed At UPEI
The University of Prince Edward Island offers students a welcoming environment to learn, be challenged, and prepare for their careers ahead. UPEI offers opportunities in co-op, employment positions on campus, internships, and assists graduates in entering the workforce locally in one of PEI’s emerging sectors.
For over 20 years, the province of PEI has undergone considerable growth - particularly in the knowledge-based sectors of Aerospace and Defense, Bioscience, and Information and Communication Technology. UPEI offers over 100 programs including Science, Business, and Engineering which are tailored to meet industry demands providing students with the required skillsets to enter the workforce after graduation. For example, the Sustainable Engineering program allows students to meet industry professionals from their very first year in the program. Students are communicating with CEOs as they work in teams on real industry projects.
In our Business, Physics, and Computer Science programs, students can do up to three co-op work terms providing up to 12 months of paid experience during their degrees. UPEI also offers internships in our Dietetics and Environmental Studies programs. These opportunities give students the chance to build their networks, be mentored, and gain experience and interpersonal skills required to successfully enter the workforce.
What makes UPEI unique is that the industry is coming into the classroom. Even CEOs of companies are teaching classes in the video game development program. Did you know a small video gaming company in PEI of only 27 people made one of the biggest games for iPhone ever?
PEI is community-based, meaning we are able to connect students to industry more easily than other jurisdictions. PEI has it all: great education programs, affordable housing, little traffic, low crime rates, friendly neighbors, and a wide variety of well-paying jobs available in various sectors. In short, a quality of life that is second to none!
