Gain Experience: Work in Canada!

Work while you study in Canada and add valuable international experience to your resume!

One of the key reasons why more and more international students are considering Canada for their university studies is the opportunity to work while they study and to build their resume with valuable Canadian work experience. Here are some things to keep in mind as you consider Canada for your university education:

Work part-time while you study. As an international student, you can work part-time on or off campus, up to 20 hours per week when you are enrolled in a full-time degree program. During school breaks, such as the winter holiday and summer break, you can even work full-time, up to 40 hours per week. Students who study at Saint Mary’s University benefit from living in the urban city of Halifax, where part-time jobs in areas such as banking, retail, restaurants, and more are plentiful for students. Additionally, more than 1,000 students work part-time on campus.

Make connections and build your resume. Part-time work and Co-operative Education opportunities are fantastic ways for international students to build their resume with relevant work experience and make connections with local employers, who may be hiring later on. Working in Canada is also a great way for you to gain a deeper understanding of the Canadian business culture and enhance your cross-cultural communication skills.

Study & Stay. Upon completion of your degree program in Canada, you may qualify for a post-graduate work permit for up to three years. This work permit would allow you to stay and work full-time anywhere in Canada, and is another great reason why gaining work experience while you study is a definite advantage.
