UNBC Supports Research Students

Entrance and Tri-Council Awards are just the start of the many scholarship opportunities for UNBC graduate students.

Did you know that the Graduate Programs Office has awards available to you during the course of your program?

While many graduate awards can be found in our Scholarships and Bursaries Guide, including Graduate Entrance Awards, administered by the Awards and Financial Aid office, the Office of Graduate Programs also administers a number of awards, including all Tri-Agency Awards (CIHR, NSERC and SSHRC) and some internal UNBC awards to help ease the financial burden of your research. Some examples include Research Project Awards and Graduate Travel Awards.

Research Project Awards

UNBC has up to $5,000 available, per person, per competition, to support student-led research (there are maximums of $10,000 for Master's students and $15,000 for Doctoral students). If you're interested, the next application deadline is Oct. 1, 2018.

Travel Awards

Master's students can be paid up to $2,000, and Doctoral students up to $3,000, during the course of each degree. There are two types of travel award:

• Conference Travel Awards can be used to fund travel to a conference to present a paper or poster. Conference fees, accommodation, travel to/from and within the location of the conference, and meal costs can be claimed.
• Research Travel Awards can be used to fund individual travel to conduct thesis research, data collection, field research, library visits, or travel to laboratories, research institutes, and centres. Accommodation, travel to/from and within the location of the research, and meal costs can be claimed.

There is no deadline to apply for any of the travel awards, but applications must be submitted at least 10 business days in advance of travel.
