Finding Scholarships and Financial Aid for University

Save

Earning a university degree is a big accomplishment and will be one of the most valuable commitments you’ll ever make. Financial assistance will help you focus on your academic goals and ease your worries.

One of the easiest funding opportunities is entrance scholarships. Think of these as a pat on the back for all your hard work in high school. At Nipissing, if you earn the marks, you get the money, and more than 64% of our first year students receive an entrance scholarship. These scholarships are guaranteed to students with high academic marks and can carry over into the following years. Best of all, there’s no need to apply! All students entering the first year of a program at Nipissing are automatically considered for entrance scholarships.

Bursaries and awards are also a great source of funding as they are awarded based on financial need and/or extra-curricular involvement. There is a diverse list of bursaries and awards that you can apply for depending on your unique circumstances and all you have to do is fill out an application. Make sure you keep track of deadlines, and note that many award applications are due by May 1, 2018. Additional sources of funding often include financial incentives from your employer, your parent’s workplaces, and organizations within your community.

Another option for financial aid is through government assistance programs such as the Ontario Student Assistance Program (OSAP). There are many grants and loans available to those who meet the eligibility requirements. Furthermore, on-campus work study programs, such as the NUWork program at Nipissing, provide ideal jobs for students. The ten hour work weeks and flexible schedules allow you to attend to your studies while earning additional income.

Help is generally given to those who do their funding homework and ace the applications!
