How to Prepare for a Virtual Open House

Laurentian University has some tips for how you can make the most of your virtual open houses as they prepare for theirs on Saturday, October 23rd.

We hope you are having a great time researching post-secondary options! As you’re probably recognizing, Fall is an important time for discovering what and where you want to study. With Laurentian University offering more than 100 programs across 4 dynamic faculties, we want to help you with this process. Together, let’s ensure you can make the most out of Laurentian University’s Virtual Open House, on Saturday October 23rd.

How do you prepare for a virtual open house?

So, how does one prepare for a virtual open house? Well, the same way you would prepare for an in-person event - except this time - you’re able to tune in from the comfort of your home. Here are some tips on how you can make the best use of your time prior to, during and following our Virtual Open House!

Tip #1: Research the programs that you find most interesting!

Consider course requirements, degree outlines and career perspectives. You can find information on programs on page 20 of our viewbook, viewbook (PDF)!

Tip #2: Register for your Virtual Open Houses early!

Make sure you register early for virtual open houses so that you can gain access to important information and can plan your time around which sessions you want to attend. Register now for Laurentian University’s Open House, and then starting on October 18th, register for your desired sessions.

Tip #3: Get familiar with the platform that the virtual open house will use!

Avoid technical issues on the day of your virtual open house by learning more about the platform that will be used. We will be using Zoom for all our sessions. If you’re unfamiliar with how to use Zoom, take some time beforehand to become familiar! If you already have Zoom, make sure its software is updated to the latest version.

Tip #4: Write down your questions ahead of time.

Don’t make assumptions, get the answers you need! Having questions written out prior to the event ensures that you can disconnect at the end of the day knowing everything you wanted to know is addressed

Tip #4.5 Reflect on what you’ve learned after the virtual open house.

After each session you attend, ask yourself the following:

• Have I determined which programs I want to apply to?
• Will I meet the program requirements?
• Can I continue to pursue my sport or my hobbies at Laurentian?
• Do I know Laurentian’s scholarships and bursary offerings?
• Do I want to live in a guaranteed Residence in my first year?
• When can I come see the campus in person?

Tip # 5: Come to campus and visit us!
