Enhance your MBA by gaining international experience with Rotman School of Management.
In business, you’re dealing with the entire world. You need to understand the opportunities and risks associated with the emergence of important markets in the world economy. The international study opportunities at Rotman help you gain essential international experience to succeed.
A world of opportunity
The Rotman MBA reflects the reality of doing business in the global economy, and the school’s location is a major asset. Toronto is the world’s most multicultural city, with over half the city’s population born outside of the country.
You will have a range of opportunities to bring the world into the classroom, from a one-week study tour to a full semester abroad, to gain international experience while you earn your MBA.
Internationalize your MBA
Take advantage of one of these opportunities to get an international perspective with your degree:
International exchange program
Exchanges give students the option of studying at one of 28 leading universities worldwide. Some notable schools include:
- Hong Kong University of Science and Technology
- Melbourne Business School
- Copenhagen Business School

International study tours
Global practicums are designed to provide a framework with which to understand the opportunities and challenges associated with the emergence of major new markets in the world economy. The trips include stopovers in major cities where students will learn firsthand what it is like to do business while participating in a number of cultural and tourist activities. Site visits to local, Canadian and international companies provide students with a well-rounded overview of the specific country.
Global practicums change on a yearly basis, and have been offered in the following regions:
- Southeast Asia
- East Asia
- Latin America and South America
- Silicon Valley
Doing business internationally (DBI) intensive program
The DBI offers alternative international experience: a hybrid of the International Exchange Program and the International Study Tours. Based at one of Rotman’s international partner schools, the DBI is an intensive course that focuses on how to do business in a specific country.
The academic component of the program is overseen entirely by the partner school (in much the same way as the International Exchange Program) but does take place over the course of 1-2 weeks. Like the International Study Tours, the program includes activities outside of the classroom, including company presentations, tours, roundtables discussions, but these are truly secondary to the in-class piece.
DBI locations are confirmed on an annual basis, but in the past have been offered in the following countries:
- China
- Germany
- Israel
- South Korea
- Taiwan
Global consulting projects
Under the supervision of a Rotman faculty member, MBA students work on and deliver an in-depth study of a specific country or region, while gaining real-life experience.
Global consulting projects enable our students to earn course credit for applying what they’ve learned across the globe. In the past, our students completed projects in the following locations:
- Seattle
- Silicon Valley
- Tanzania
- Nigeria
- Myanmar
Projects have ranged from setting up micro financing systems to improving entrepreneurial opportunities for at-risk communities. As well, our students can work with Boston Consulting Group and partner with the non-profit, CUSO International, to bring their projects to life!
