Huron Awards to Celebrate You
Discover what kinds of scholarships we at Huron University College offer our incoming Canadian first-year students.
You’ve put in a lot of effort into finishing off the year on high note and now you’ve got the summer to celebrate! But the celebration doesn’t stop at the end of the summer. Huron University College is carrying the party into your first year with plenty of scholarships and awards!
We give out $4.4 million every year to recognize our students’ academic excellence, dedication to civic engagement, and demonstration of exceptional character. Through both automatic and application-based awards, you’ll earn some money for your education. Start your year off strong by decreasing your financial stress with some of these awards:
Automatic entrance scholarships
With automatic entrance scholarships, you can continue to sit back and relax — we’ve already got everything we need! These awards are based on your final admission average:
Canadian Entrance Scholarships
If you’ve got a final admission average of 82% or higher, you’re guaranteed an automatic entrance award from Huron:

The best part of these awards is that they’re renewable for up to four years as long as you maintain an overall average of 80%+ in a minimum of 5.0 credits each year.
Alberta Scholarship
Award amount: $2,500
If you’ve graduated from a high school in Alberta, then you could earn the Alberta Scholarship! This award is given to the student from Alberta who has the highest final admission average.
Manitoba Scholarship
Award amount: $3,000
If you’ve graduated from a high school in Manitoba, this scholarship could be yours! The award is meant for the student from Manitoba with the highest final admission average.

Huron’s Hellmuth Scholarships
Award amount: full tuition and fees (renewable for up to four years)
Number of awards available: 10
To qualify for the Hellmuth Scholarships, you must be a Canadian citizen and have an academic average of 90% or higher halfway through the year. You must also demonstrate passion for student life through community leadership, volunteer service, passion for arts, athletics, etc.
For this application, you’ll need to submit your grades, a school nomination, resumé, and a statement of purpose. If you’re selected to be on the short-list, you’ll be invited for a video interview as well.
Scotiabank Scholarship
Award amount: full tuition and on-campus housing fees
Number of awards available: 5 (renewable for up to four years)
The Scotiabank Scholarship is intended for students who have participated in the Scotiabank Scholars Program from the following communities: minorities, Indigenous, low-income, first-generation, or newcomers to Canada. You must also be entering Huron directly out of high school and applying for your first undergraduate degree with a minimum average of 70%.
The Scotiabank Scholars program is a two-year curriculum intended to prepare high school students for a higher education setting, including topics like navigating university admission, presentation skills, and networking. You’ll also participate in a summer camp where you’ll stay on-campus at Huron while building essential skills. This program is intended for students from grade 11-12.
Frank Holmes Academic Athlete Scholarship
Award amount: $4,500
Number of awards available: 2
To be eligible for the Frank Holmes Academic Athlete Scholarship, you must be part of a varsity athletic team at Western and have an admission average of 80% or higher. Two scholarships are available — one each to a male and female full-time student.
Specialist High Skills Major Scholarship
Award amount: $2,000
Number of awards available: 4 per school board
The Specialist High Skills Major Scholarship is for students who have graduated with a specialist high skills major in:
- Arts & Culture
- Business
- Non-profit
- Health & Wellness
