MRU Launches Bachelor of Aviation Management
New degree sets the stage for careers in aviation operations and management. Take your career to the skies!
Calling all aviation enthusiasts! Mount Royal University recently launched a Bachelor of Aviation Management — the first degree of its kind in Alberta. Blending technical skills with management know-how, the program prepares students to excel in roles within airlines, airports, and other aviation-related businesses.
What makes this four-year program truly special is its focus on both technical and managerial competencies. It's not just about flying planes; it's about understanding the intricacies of aviation operations from the ground up to, well, the skies. Based on their area of interest, students choose from two concentration pathways: Flight Crew Operations and Aviation Operations.
Flight Crew Operations concentration
In Flight Crew Operations, students have the option to participate in training towards their Commercial Pilot Licence and Multi-Engine Instrument Rating. This pathway prepares them for professional pilot careers while also setting them up for management opportunities as their flying career develops.
Aviation Operations concentration
The Aviation Operations pathway focuses on honing management skills and providing specialized knowledge in aviation business content. This includes learning about the complex issues affecting global operations, such as economic and environmental sustainability, financial operations, logistics, and best practices for managing people and processes.
Aviation management: the basics and beyond
Built on a solid base of experiential learning, the Bachelor of Aviation Management is designed to facilitate a seamless transition from degree to employment. MRU has a strong airline partnership program which provides students with direct access to mentorship and interview opportunities. The degree also offers the possibility to complete courses online in the final two years so students have the flexibility to work while they get closer to graduation.
Mount Royal University has a long history in aviation education, dating back to its campus being the former site of a World War II flight training school. The program has continued to evolve, addressing the needs of the aviation industry. With support from the Alberta government and other organizations, including funding for the new degree, MRU is committed to shaping the future of aviation education.
"The degree builds on the aviation alumni and industry network that already exists with the diploma and MRU's great reputation in aviation for more than 50 years. There are numerous partnerships, both formal and informal, that can lead to jobs," says Deanna Weibe, academic director and chief flight instructor of the aviation program at Mount Royal.
So whether you're passionate about taking to the skies or leading from behind the scenes, Mount Royal University's Bachelor of Aviation Management is your path to a successful career in aviation.
