Explore the Benefits of the Human Resources (HR) Concentration at CapU BBA Program

Choosing the HR concentration in my Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) degree at Capilano University (CapU) was one of the best decisions I made in my academic journey.

In their third year of the BBA program, students choose from six concentrations: Accounting, Business Information and Analytics (BIMA), Financial Planning, HR Management, International Business, and Logistics or Marketing.

HR is more than recruiting

In my studies, I have learned that HR is more than recruiting; it encompasses training and development, onboarding, and meeting people from various occupations.

I’ve developed flexible soft skills that are invaluable in any industry in this concentration, which offers comprehensive training in HR practices through hands-on, real-time projects working for actual clients.

As part of our training, we have connected directly with businesses, creating handbooks and developing recruitment strategies. HR is everywhere and the skills we gain are universally applicable.

After graduation, my goal is to start a career as an HR administrator in a large organization, such as the Canadian Forces, where HR professionals are in demand.

How being involved on campus helped me

I have also been involved with the CapU HRMA club, serving as the club president, which has helped me develop my leadership and communication skills. The club has organized events to help students understand what HR entails, networking sessions, information sessions, and public speaking events.

The CapU School of Business frequently invites recruiters for Q&A sessions, providing students with direct insights from industry professionals. These experiences enhanced my resumé and were greatly beneficial for my personal growth and professional development.

Overall, my time at CapU, particularly within the HR concentration and HRMA club, has helped me make lasting connections, gain invaluable experience, and develop skills that will serve me well in my future career.
