Your New Home Away from Home

Moving to university and being away from home for the first time can be a big adjustment for a lot of students. Living on campus can bring some new challenges at first but will also provide you with a lot of exciting opportunities. As such. It’s important to be knowledgeable about all of the different resources available to you both on and off campus to make this transition a successful one.

Residence Life Staff

Adapting to an unfamiliar environment away from family and hometown friends can naturally be challenging and quite intimidating at first. At Brock, we have a very welcoming group of upper-year students, known as Residence Life Staff, who are here to help every step of the way during your transition into university life and the residence experience.

The Residence Dons in your community plan a wide variety of events and programs to help ease any anxiety you may have, and help you make new friends while living in residence. They have tons of resources to help connect you with various programming on campus, and are always there to support you.

Off-campus living

Some students will choose to live at home or off campus during their first year, or in upper years with friends that they made in residence. Being off campus can feel isolating at first, as you move away from the hustle and bustle of a busy and active campus environment. You don’t have to feel left out though, as there is plenty of programming available for all students that live off campus through our Student Life and Success Centre. Get connected with this great community, and know that you have support both on campus, and off campus throughout the Niagara region.

Getting involved

The easiest way to become familiar with a new campus and to make new friends, is by getting involved. Day or night, weekday or weekend, there’s always something going on that you can participate in. At Brock, we offer students ExperienceBU — an online platform that organizes all on-campus events into one convenient place, allowing you to RSVP ahead of time. You can find all sorts of clubs and activities that pique your interest, to help you get involved and make connections within your new surroundings.
