Your High School to University Checklist: Preparing Your York University Application

Preparing for your educational journey after high school is a big, important, part of your life. When you are considering your next steps, it’s essential to also consider the steps you need to take to succeed. At York University, we want to make sure you stay on track, find programs you are interested in, and successfully submit your application. Check out the steps below to explore the considerations and possibilities available at York.

1. Find your program

Your first step should be exploring programs that you are interested in. At York, we offer hundreds of programs, allowing you to benefit from innovative course design and diverse experiential education opportunities! By using the Program Search tool you will be able to narrow down your search results based on your interests, the Faculty you’d like to explore, the term in which you are interested in attending York, and the campus you’d like to study at. Don’t worry, you won’t need to use every filter option. If you’d like to start filtering by interest, you can choose from a list that includes programs that are unique to York and more.

2. Explore admission requirements

Once you have researched programs, you can then explore their requirements by visiting the program page or by exploring the Admission Requirements page. Here, you will be able to input information about yourself, such as what kind of student you are, what province you have gotten your education from, and choose your preferred program.

Depending on which degree you are interested in, you may be required to do a language test. Programs at Keele Campus are offered in English, while programs at Glendon Campus are offered in English and French. Once you have chosen your program, you must demonstrate proficiency in the language of instruction by completing an accepted language test.

3. Take note of financial considerations

Your education is an exciting investment that requires careful planning. You can get an idea of what your first term at York will be like financially by visiting the Tuition and Fees page. Here, you will be able to see fees for Ontario students, and those joining from out of the province and country. If you are interested in living in residence, you will be able to find those expense rates by scrolling down the page. Curious about how to make payments? Keep scrolling and read the “Paying Your Fees” section to learn more.

There are $100 million awarded in scholarships at York. With various financial awards, some scholarships can be received automatically, while others require an application. Check out what is available to you by visiting the Scholarships & Bursaries website.

4. Complete your submission

You’re almost there! When you are ready to start sending your university applications, be sure to keep the York pages on your radar. Don’t miss a cutoff date, visit the Deadlines for Undergraduate Study page to find out when you can apply for each term.
