Meet the Capilano Blues
Discover the many benefits to the Capilano Blues, who compete in basketball, soccer, and volleyball!
From 1974 to 1999, the Capilano Blues dominated Canada’s collegiate athletics scene, offering a strong foundation in both sports and education.
Notable alumni like Rick Celebrini, Paul Dailly, and Craig Dalrymple made their mark with teams like the Vancouver Whitecaps. Others, including Mike Dodd and Silvana Burtini, represented Canada in international tournaments and the Summer Olympics.
This is all thanks to the resources, coaches, support, and infrastructure the Capilano University Blues program provides its varsity athletes to ensure their success.
Athletics programs and dedicated infrastructure
The Blues compete in basketball, soccer, and volleyball, and have strong facilities and staff dedicated to strength and conditioning and injury prevention.
Student-athletes can access our full-time strength and conditioning coach or an athletic therapist who can give mobility assessments, prevent injuries, assist in recovery, and more.
They can also access a dedicated gym and weight room with the strength and conditioning coach for additional training off the field or on the court.
CapU also stands out for its location. The North Vancouver campus is surrounded by lush, towering forests, with the majestic Coast Mountains providing a stunning backdrop.
Our North Vancouver campus is also unique as the only university in the PACWEST Conference to use a full grass field, while the Squamish campus uses a newly installed FIFA-grade soccer pitch.
Financial support and opportunities
With athletes being full or part-time students in more than 120 programs ranging from music to kinesiology, engineering, motion picture arts, and more.
Both the University and the Blues understand the need for flexibility, especially when it comes to tuition and continuing to pursue higher education.
CapU offers several scholarships, bursaries, and awards that you don’t have to pay back. If you’re a Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident, you may qualify for loans or grants from the government to help you pay for your education at CapU. Athletes may also be awarded tuition waivers that cover the cost of their tuition credits.
Athletes who achieve a grade point average of 3.0 or higher can also be recognized on the CapU honor roll.
