Our English as an Additional Language (EAL ) classes offer newcomers training in speaking, listening, reading, and writing English. Classes are interactive and responsive to student needs, questions, and English skill level. Classes are delivered to serve learners with different levels of English proficiency. Classes also help familiarize newcomers with Canadian culture and their local community. LINC and Stage-1 & 2 English curriculums are used in class.
EAL instructors are dedicated and enthusiastic about teaching. They have a combination of teaching degrees, classroom experience, CERTESL training and experience teaching overseas.
Registrations are taken on an ongoing basis. Students need to bring an immigration document and SIN with them to class to register. Each student will receive a language assessment (CLBPT) upon enrollment in an EAL program to determine placement as well as student needs.
LINC certificates will be issued to students who are eligible.
There are several English language training options available in Canada. The Southeast College receives funding from Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada to offer LINC programs and Language Circles. The following video describes these program and what learners can expect.
