Description:

A periodontist is a dentist who specializes in the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of periodontal disease, and in the placement of dental implants. Periodontists are also experts in the treatment of oral inflammation. The Thesis-based MSc in Medical Sciences-Periodontics / PhD in Medical Sciences-Periodontics will provide extensive, cutting-edge, top-of-the-line training in these areas. An emphasis will be given for the classic as well as the latest techniques for diagnosing and treating periodontal disease, and also to training in performing cosmetic periodontal procedures. Residents will treat complex and advanced periodontal cases including patients with a complex medical history. In addition, the residents will be specially trained in the placement and repair of dental implants and bone related surgeries.

Graduate students in this program will be prepared to challenge the Royal College of Dentists of Canada (RCDC) Fellowship national specialty examination as well as the American Board of Periodontology exam.
