Description:

This three year thesis-based MSc program prepares students to plan and manage dental care for medically complex patients; diagnose and treat medically related disorders and conditions affecting the oral and maxillofacial region, including oral mucosal diseases and salivary gland disorders; and assess and manage orofacial pain disorders and oral chemosensory disorders.
The mission of the Oral Medicine Graduate program is to educate our Oral Medicine graduate students to provide the highest quality care to the diverse communities we serve. The program will provide a valuable resource to Alberta’s dentists and physicians and their patients. We strive to contribute to the high caliber research at University of Alberta and prepare our graduate students for academic-clinical track careers. We are committed to fostering an environment that promotes collegiality, professionalism and collaboration.

Prerequisites:

These courses are intended as guidelines. Speak to your guidance counsellor to see what courses are offered at your school.
    Candidates are accepted under the general regulations of the Medical Sciences Graduate Program. Completion of a DDS or equivalent degree is required with a grade point average of at least 3.0 (or equivalent qualification) in the last 60 units of course weight of their dental program. A clinical or laboratory research project and a limited teaching commitment may be expected. If the candidate does not hold a license to practice dentistry in Canada, an application must be made to be placed on the Teaching and Research Registry with the Alberta Dental Association and College.
    Application Notes : All applicants must demonstrate English language proficiency prior to admission either by:
    Possession of a degree or its academic equivalent from an academic institution recognized by the University of Alberta, in which the language of instruction is English.
    A satisfactory score on an approved English language examination as described below.
    TOEFL paper-based score of 570
    TOEFL computer-based score equivalent of 230
    TOEFL internet-based score equivalent of 95 (with at least 20 per section)
    CAEL minimum score of 70 with at least 70 on each subtest
    IELTS (Academic test) score of 7.5 with at least 6 on each band
