College of the North Atlantic’s Visual Effects (VFX) program is a response to the increased demand for visual effects artists. The film industry in Newfoundland and Labrador and throughout Canada is experiencing growth, and the opportunity for employment in post-production has never been greater. Graduates of this program will be prepared for employment in several avenues of the visual effects industry. From the initial concepts to the final visuals, students will learn professional techniques that are essential in today's visual effects industry.
The art of visual effects is a fundamental part of the filmmaking process. While visual effects are added after filming, the process of creating them begins early in the pre-production stage. Not only are visual effects a mainstay in movies, television shows, commercials, and music videos, but they are also integral in 3D animated projects and video game cinematics. The techniques learned in this program are used in other industries that require visualizations and simulations.
