Depression is a leading cause of disability worldwide and is a major contributor to the overall global burden of disease. This course explores the connection between depressive symptomatology and foundational brain structure, brain chemistry, hormonal and genetic components. Students will understand how depression looks different at different life stages and differentiate between mild to severe conditions. Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), one of the most effective evidence-based treatments, will be explored and applied in treating depression and reducing risk of suicidal ideation and behaviour. |
