The Software Engineering Technology (Fast Track, Co-op) program is designed to get you into the field quicker — with real world experience — if you have a background in software. Qualified college or university graduates may gain direct admission into year two (semester three) of the three-year program and receive their advanced diploma in four semesters (plus two work terms). Whether you balance the books, edit photographs or produce a movie, it wouldn’t be possible without the latest software programs. Now you won’t just be using software — you will design, develop and maintain it. This School of Engineering Technology and Applied Science program will teach you about modern software engineering methodologies, programming languages, design and algorithm concepts, and data management tools.
Through hands-on experience, you will also learn to develop various software applications, human computer interfaces and enterprise information systems. The Software Engineering Technology (Fast Track, Co-op) course work will emphasize object-oriented software design methodologies, user-oriented interface design, software testing and QA, C#, Java, Java EE, Oracle, MS-SQL Server, Unix/Linux, Microsoft’s .NET, HTML5/XML, Ajax and Rich Internet Applications technologies, mobile computing, cloud computing, data mining, and software security. To further spotlight the applied focus of the curriculum, the program will include two software development projects. To complete these assignments you will use all your technical and business skills to build higher quality software. The experience will prepare you for the field and for the offering’s co-op component. You will enhance your education by working two terms as a paid employee in the field. The experience will see you put classroom learning into practice and provide valuable contacts for a future career.
