The Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering in the College of Engineering offers the Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering. At the MS level students may pursue a program preparing for advanced practice or for MS thesis research. All MS students with assistantships are required to complete a thesis. Other students may elect either the thesis or nonthesis option. All course work must have the approval of the academic advisor.

An undergraduate degree in engineering is preferred. Mathematics or physics majors with linear algebra and multivariable calculus, or students of any major with the equivalent background in mathematics as an engineering major are acceptable.
