Three semesters in length, the Architectural Building Technology program, provides students with the technical skills needed to create design and construction drawings for commercial and residential buildings. Students learn to create detailed plans using the latest computer aided design software and three-dimensional modeling simulations to enforce special concepts. They develop a thorough knowledge of modern construction techniques and materials' technology. The theories of construction, current products technology and building codes, learned throughout the course, are implemented into their drawings. Detailed construction documents are prepared from the students work to convey information to the building trades and municipal governments. Students learn the principles of planning, the impact of zoning bylaws, project management and model building. Hand drafting techniques are combined with rendering to enable students to present their ideas graphically to clients. Project management, estimating and material take-off as well as portfolio preparation are incorporated into the program. |
