Description:

This program is designed to provide the graduate with appropriate training required for entry into positions in the mining and milling operations. The training received will help students to develop an appreciation of the mining industry and the importance of mining to Canadians and Nunavut. Students will be shown the concepts behind how companies locate [exploration], evaluate different methods [feasibility] and to see why certain practices are followed and/or avoided through the milling and disposal of waste materials [tailings] and finally reclamation once the project is finished.

Prerequisites:

These courses are intended as guidelines. Speak to your guidance counsellor to see what courses are offered at your school.
    Applicants wishing to apply to this program must be at least 17 years of age, have completed Grade 8 or Nunavut Arctic College ABE English and Math 120, be in good health, meet the College medical requirements and pass a Mine Medical Examination, be mechanically inclined, and be willing to work days, evenings, and weekends.
