This is a 28-week Diploma Program consisting of 24 weeks of theoretical and clinical study and 4 weeks of practicum in a hospital or private laboratory arranged for you by West Coast College. The Medical Laboratory Assistant plays a vital front-line role in the Health Care Team. A Medical Laboratory Assistant's main duties are to collect blood samples from patients; process blood samples and other biological samples for laboratory testing; perform electrocardiograms; perform front office duties while interacting with clients/patients. |
These courses are intended as guidelines. Speak to your guidance counsellor to see what courses are offered at your school. Applicants must have completed Grade 12 or a GED, or be 19 years of age or older. A pre-admission interview and English and math assessment are also required. Applicants must be able to type at least 40 WPM, and must satisfactorily complete a criminal records search. Finally, applicants must provide proof of a negative TB test. |
