Description:

In your first year, you get to complete the requirements of either the Horticulture Crop Production and Protection certificate or the Livestock Production certificate before going on to year two. All courses from these certificates apply to the diploma program.

In your second year, you develop additional expertise in your chosen area of practice, learn about sustainable holistic agricultural practices, and explore issues relating to on-farm food safety, quality, and security. You also develop your writing, business, and marketing skills both by completing coursework and a hands-on enterprise project where you get to develop a business plan for an agricultural venture.

Prerequisites:

These courses are intended as guidelines. Speak to your guidance counsellor to see what courses are offered at your school.
  •  Grade12 English 
  •  Grade11 Foundations for College Mathematics (MAP4C)  or  Grade11 Principles of Mathematics  or  Grade11 Precalculus  or  Grade11 Applied Mathematics 
  •  Grade11 Biology  or  Grade11 Chemistry  or  Grade11 Physics  or  Grade11 Earth and Space Science 
Applicants are required to have: a B.C. secondary school graduation or equivalent; one of the following Mathematics classes: Foundations of Mathematics 11, Pre-calculus 11, Apprenticeship and Workplace Mathematics 11, the formerly-offered Principles of Mathematics 11, Applications of Mathematics 11, or Essentials of Mathematics 11 or MATH 085 or equivalent; one of the following Grade 11 sciences: Biology 11 or BIO 083 (strongly recommended), Chemistry 11 or CHEM 083, Earth Science 11, or Physics 11 or PHYS 083.

Test Scores:
  • International English Language Testing System (academic or immigration) [min. 6.5] or Canadian Academic English Language Assessment [min. 70] or Test of English as a Foreign Language (Internet Based) [min. 88] or CanTEST [min. 4.5]

The Agriculture Technology department will also consider applicants if they can demonstrate that they have a reasonable chance for success. Applicants will be required to submit a portfolio and/ or be interviewed.
