The triOS College Physiotherapy Assistant Diploma Program provides students with the knowledge and skills necessary to start a rewarding career as a Physiotherapy Assistant. Physiotherapy is part of the process of recovery and rehabilitation for injured individuals, and the demand for trained professionals to support the industry continues to grow. With an aging population, the demand will only rise. Individuals considering a career as a Physiotherapy Assistant should enjoy working with people, be compassionate, patient, and possess the ability to listen, as well as being physically able to assist in patient lifts and support.
Physiotherapy Assistants are taught how the body functions. Knowledge is acquired on disease, injury and the healing process, detection of deficiencies in posture, balance, movement and function. The Physiotherapy Assistant administers physical therapy treatments to patients under the direction of and as assistants to a Physiotherapist. Work settings include hospitals, physiotherapy clinics, rehabilitation centres, long-term care facilities, sports medicine clinics, community health care agencies and other medical settings. |
These courses are intended as guidelines. Speak to your guidance counsellor to see what courses are offered at your school. High School Graduation Diploma or Mature Student Status (18 years of age and academic achievement assessment passed). In addition, an entrance assessment must be successfully passed; demonstrated fluency in English (oral and written) and an Admissions Interview to determine suitability for a career as a Physiotherapy Assistant. All students enrolled in the Physiotherapy Assistant program must be in good general health, produce a "negative" (clear) police check and obtain a Medical Certificate (free of communicable disease with up to date immunization status). Hepatitis B immunization is strongly recommended. Individuals considering a career as a Physiotherapy Assistant should enjoy working with people, be compassionate, patient and possess the ability to listen, as well as being physically able to assist in patient lifts and support.
