The Health Informatics Technology (Fast Track) program will allow you to gain direct admission into semester three of the three-year offering so you receive an advanced diploma in four semesters, if you are a qualified college or university graduate with a background in software. Emphasis of this program will be on incorporating knowledge of both information technology and healthcare systems so that you may design, develop, modify and test software for healthcare applications. As a graduate from this School of Engineering Technology and Applied Science program, you will be able to analyze and model data, develop healthcare databases and apply modern software development methodologies. You will also have the know-how to use health informatics methods and software tools for hospitals, healthcare agencies and public health departments.
The coursework will emphasize object-oriented software design methodologies, user-oriented interface design, structure of healthcare information systems, telehealth, data security and privacy in healthcare systems. It will also focus on technologies that include C#, Java, Java EE, Oracle, MS-SQL Server, Microsoft’s .NET, Data Warehousing and Data Mining, and BI tools in healthcare systems. To emphasize the applied focus of the curriculum, the Health Informatics Technology (Fast Track) program will include two software development projects in the field of health informatics.
