Mining engineers work in a multidisciplinary field that covers every aspect of the responsible extraction of critical minerals, as well as harnessing clean energy fundamentals to transform society and introduce radical change to accelerate a low carbon, climate-friendly future. These critical minerals and clean energy sources are required to construct the modern amenities we all rely on: cell phones, computers, electric vehicles, solar panels, healthcare infrastructure and much more.
The Mining Engineering program at the University of Alberta is the biggest of its kind in Canada, offering a broad-based program covering subjects ranging from surface and underground mining to physical and mathematical sciences. Our graduates are well equipped to compete and succeed in a variety of careers in industry and government. |
| Additional Admission Requirements: | This program does not allow admission directly from high school. Preprofessional Study Time: 1 year. All students in the Qualifying Year in the Faculty of Engineering follow a common curriculum in their first year. At the end of the first year, students choose among the various specialized Engineering programs offered and between the traditional and cooperative education streams.
Students with transferable post-secondary coursework taken outside of the Faculty of Engineering are considered for admission based on GPA and relevant transfer credit. |
