The goal of the personal support worker program is to provide personal, emotional, and supportive care to clients of all ages suffering with mental, cognitive, and physical disabilities living in long-term care facilities, residential homes, supportive housing, and hospices. The main emphasis is placed on the role of the personal worker in assisting with client care; empowering and respecting clients' autonomy, values, and beliefs; and being a facilitator in the healing process of clients suffering from physical and emotional pain.
Course includes a nine-week clinical placement that students are expected to complete in a nursing home, retirement, or group home setting. Upon completion of the course, student smust successfully pass the theory, clinical, and final exam. |

Applicants must have a high school diploma, certification for CPR and Standard First Aid for adult and children, be vaccinated against the flu and Hepatitis B, obtain a negative result from a TB mantoux skin test, and provide a criminal reference check.
