Description:

This comprehensive training program consists of two major components: practical and theory. The emphasis is on fieldwork with lessons adapted to seasons, available resources, and three specialized components of guiding: hunting, freshwater angling, and adventure tourism. Students receive training in all aspects of each component of guiding, as defined through the Canadian Tourism Resource Council's Emerit standards, and National Occupational Guidelines. The Emerit program is endorsed and sponsored by Hospitality Newfoundland and Labrador.

Students will study the Basic Skills of guiding for professionalism, including environment and legal aspects of the industry, communication skills and client relations. They will also study Life Skills, including safety and survival skills, and operation and maintenance of equipment and livestock. Specialized training in hunting skills, freshwater angling skills, and outdoor adventure skills are delivered both through classroom settings and wilderness camp experiences.

Prerequisites:
