With the tremendous growth in mineral exploration throughout New foundland and Labrador in recent years and the huge impact that mining development has had and will continue to have in this province, the need has been recognized for trained diamond drillers. Diamond drillers are needed at the ground level of exploration and according to industry experts there is a severe shortage of trained workers in this province. Corona College has developed an excellent reputation within the mining industry for its quality training of underground miners. In keeping with the very high standards set for the underground mining program, we are now willing to launch this new program within the mining arena. We wish to thank the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities in Ontario for its assistance in developing the curriculum. Having the CORE modules from the MTCU ensures that our students are learning material that is the industry standard. They can be assured that their training is relevant and current.
Students who enroll in this program will have the opportunity to complete both the surface and the underground diamond drilling programs. They will complete both the Helper Level and the Runner Level. They will be trained to work in all facets of this vital industry. In addition to these CORE modules students will also complete certificates in various safety oriented programs. As with our Hard Rock Mining program, safety will always be the first priority. Those working in the mining industry have hazardous work environments; however, with the appropriate emphasis placed on safety, these environments do not have to be unsafe. Our students will learn to protect themselves, their coworkers, as well as their employer's property. They will know that safety is never to be compromised. The curriculum reflects this commitment to safety. |
