The IB Middle Years Program (MYP) is a program of international education designed to help students develop the knowledge, understanding, attitudes and skills necessary to participate actively and responsibly in a changing world. It provides a framework of academic challenge and life skills for intermediate and secondary school students aged 11 to 16 years, from Grades 6-10. The five-year program offers an educational approach that embraces and transcends traditional school subjects. The MYP is based on the premise that education can foster understanding among young people around the world, enabling future generations to live more peacefully and productively than we do today. Intercultural awareness is central to the program.
The MYP program provides a thorough study of various disciplines. It also accentuates the interrelatedness of them, acknowledging the role of the subject disciplines and trans-disciplinary study. At the same time, the IB recognizes the importance of respecting the independence and integrity of each discipline as students pursue further study in various subjects. Five perspectives known as the areas of interaction are at the core of the MYP program. These are approaches to learning, community service, health and social education, environment, and Homo Faber. These pervade and recur throughout the five years of the MYP, through the eight subject groups, and also through interdisciplinary teaching and projects, whole school activities, and the MYP personal project. |
