The MA in IDS, which enjoys a national and international reputation, is an interdisciplinary degree program accepting students from many disciplinary backgrounds. It is a 27-credit program with the option to do either a thesis or a Major Research Paper (MRP). Financial support is available on a competitive basis for qualified students.

These courses are intended as guidelines. Speak to your guidance counsellor to see what courses are offered at your school. Honours baccalaureate undergraduate degree (or equivalent) with a minor concentration in International Development Studies or a relevant social science, or who have earned a baccalaureate undergraduate degree and who can demonstrate to the satisfaction of the Admissions Committee that they have had considerable practical experience in the field of international development. Additional courses may be required at the discretion of the IDS Program should an incoming student show evidence of a specific gap in undergraduate preparation.

Supplemental Form Letter of Intent: Please expand on your areas of interest that briefly states your specific interests in pursuing International Development Studies at Saint Mary’s University. Make sure and include any work experience related to international development. Please note that this letter of intent will be used in the evaluation of your application. Acceptance into the program does not mean that you will necessarily be able to pursue the exact project detailed in the letter. You are encouraged to consult the IDS Graduate Handbook available at www.smu.ca/ids for an understanding of our research directions. Sample(s) of academic or other written work (10-25 pages). Short description of the courses taken in International Development Studies, or related courses, as well as those in the proposed area of specialization. Official transcripts for all universities and colleges attended. Three (3) recommendation forms. A current CV/Resume. Official Proof of English Language Proficiency (if required). |
