The Music and Recording Arts program is designed to provide students with the technological and creative skills needed for success in today’s digital-based music industry. The heightened expertise and artistry of members of the music industry within the province of Newfoundland and Labrador has led to an increasing demand for recording artists. In the past, many recording artists have had to leave the province to record their work; Newfoundland Labrador is now ready to meet the demands of its artists for top quality recording.
Working primarily on the Macintosh platform, students will learn industry standard music software for audio recording and processing. Practical applications include: studio design and acoustics, microphone placement, signal flow, I/O connections, hardware- and software-based effects, dynamics processing, as well as mixing and mastering. Students will also learn to create advertisements for radio broadcast and video/audio synchronization. The program also includes courses in music theory, song-writing, and arranging. Students will gain hands-on studio experience and develop portfolios by engineering and producing each other’s projects. |
