Description:

Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) programs offered by the Faculty of Humanities & Social Sciences are purely research only. Prior to formal application, intending applicants need to give consideration to the specific research topic they wish to investigate. This should be determined in consultation with a member of the academic staff of the Faculty to see whether the Faculty can provide the appropriate supervision. The candidate must be familiar enough with the relevant research area to be able to undertake specialized study in that field.

    A four-year honours degree (first class or 2A), or a research Masters Degree or a qualification or combination of qualifications deemed to be equivalent to the above by the HDR Committee. Candidates who have completed more than nine months of Masters by research and who meet the requirements for admission to PhD candidature may apply to be admitted to confirmed PhD candidature. In successful cases, the PhD candidature will be considered to have begun at the time of commencement of the Masters degree.
