The Personal Support Worker (PSW) Diploma training program was developed by the Provincial Government to reform and improve long-term healthcare for those requiring long-term care facilities, chronic care and in-home private care. This program at the National Academy of Health and Business consolidates the Health Care Aide Training, Home Support Worker training (levels I, II and III), Attendant Care Training and Respite Worker Training into one single comprehensive training program.
The Personal Support Worker provides personal care for the comfort and safety of their clients and helps to create an environment of physical, emotional and social well being. They also assist in maintaining patient independence. These techniques and skills are developed through a mix of theoretical classroom learning and practical "hands-on" training, which provides the knowledge and confidence needed to step right into the workplace upon graduation. |
These courses are intended as guidelines. Speak to your guidance counsellor to see what courses are offered at your school. Diploma programs will require an Ontario Secondary School graduation diploma or equivalent. If 18 years of age or older, you may qualify as a mature student. Mature students must obtain a passing grade on a literacy and general aptitude assessment. The National Academy of Health & Business also accepts students based on previous education, work experience and evaluation tests. All applicants will be assessed individually.
