The Law Clerk Diploma program is designed to prepare graduates of Access Business College in Toronto with legal terminology and competent skills to effectively manage a wide range of responsibilities related to legal administration procedures including legal communication, litigation, legal research, as well as legal office procedures and terminology. Students will become confident to manage a variety of legal offices by taking courses in real estate law, family law, wills and estates, corporate law, as well as litigation law. They will also learn legal computer software applications including PC Law, Teraview, and Conveyancer.

Law Clerks are an integral part of any law office. Some of their duties covers drafting legal documents under the supervision of a lawyer, reviewing and summarizing productions from various parties to an action, conducting legal research, and maintaining files. They also revise documents drafted by themselves and others, and ready them for filing with the Courts or for delivery to other counsel. Law clerks also assist lawyers daily with preparation for legal proceedings, such as motions and trials. They schedule examinations for discoveries, teleconferences, mediations, pre-trials and trials. Entering dockets and preparing client accounts are also important tasks of a law clerk.

Prerequisites:

    Applicants must have an OSSD (ONTARIO SECONDARY SCHOOL DIPLOMA), or OSSD equivalent. Applicants must also have a mature student status (19 years and older).
    Test Scores:
    • Test of English as a Foreign Language (Computer Based) [min. 200] or Test of English as a Foreign Language (Paper Based) [min. 480] or International English Language Testing System (academic or immigration) [min. 5.0]
    Application Notes : All applicants whose first language is not English must demonstrate competence in the English language proficiency standard, through submission of an official score on written tests (TOEFL or IELTS).
