Nurses who would like to further their education through graduate studies now have the opportunity to do so without leaving the province. The University of Prince Edward Island has introduced a new two-year Master of Nursing program which began in September 2011. The new MN program has two streams: the Thesis Stream and the Nurse Practitioner Stream. |

These courses are intended as guidelines. Speak to your guidance counsellor to see what courses are offered at your school. A baccalaureate degree in nursing from an approved or accredited university is required. A minimum average of 75% or a grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 (B) in the last twenty courses of a baccalaureate nursing program is required. Prior completion of a Research Methods course, an Introductory Statistics course, and a course in Nursing Theory, or equivalent. Individuals applying for the Nurse Practitioner Stream, must have a minimum of two (2) years experience in clinical nursing practice. Proof of active practicing nurse registration in Canada is necessary (i.e. proof of registration card). Applicants from other countries may apply, provided they have active practicing registered nurse status in their home country. Payment of International fees will be required of all students from outside Canada. Once enrolled in the program, all students must maintain active practicing nurse registration with the Association of Registered Nurses of Prince Edward Island. |
