Physiology is the study of how body systems work. Physiologists investigate everything from the interaction of individual molecules to how intact organisms function. Understanding cell and system physiology holds the key to discovering new ways of preventing and curing disease. Research in the department focuses on: ion channels and transporters, gene transcription, signal transduction, nuclear transport, synapse formation, nerve regeneration, neuroscience, immunology, and biomathematics of physiological systems. General Biology II (OOXU) and Organic Chemistry I (OOXV) are recommended for applicants to biological and pre-medical science programs. |
