English Literature creates better thinkers, readers and writers. You'll be inspired by lecturers who are published authors and all have PhDs in their specialisms. This gives you the ability to explore a range of topics to suit your interests including American literature, drama, crime fiction, travel writing, literary theory, Irish writing and nineteenth-century literature.
It's no wonder that we are in the top 10 for feedback satisfaction in the Guardian University Guide (English and creative writing subjects, 2015). Outside your studies, there are plenty of opportunities to get involved in Cheltenham’s vibrant literary culture. Home to the internationally-renowned Cheltenham Literature Festival, students have interviewed speakers, volunteered, reviewed and blogged about the event. Previous guests include Salman Rushdie, Judi Dench, Zadie Smith, Ian McEwan, Doris Lessing and Toni Morrison.
