Description:

The Department of Mathematics and Statistics has offered graduate programs since 1964 and has been active in the M.Sc. in computational science since the program's inception. Graduate students in mathematics and statistics are encouraged to participate in regular departmental colloquia, which are supplemented by an international speakers series. Recent guest speakers include K. Burrage (University of Queensland), H. Chick (University of Tasmania), P. Hilton (SUNY at Binghampton), S. Ruan (Dalhousie University) and R. D. Russell (SFU). In 1999 the department was host to the Canadian Mathematical Society (CMA) Summer Meeting, the AARMS Workshop in Combinatorics and the APICS Meeting in Mathematics.

The MSc program has two options. The research-based program consists of graduate courses and a thesis. A full-time student is expected to complete the degree requirements in two years. The course-based program is an intensive three semester (one-year) program based on graduate courses and a project. This program accepts new students only in the Fall semester.
